Ten things to do in Edinburgh

  1. Climb the Scott Monument. Yes, it’s a 287-step slog to the top, but the payoff is a great view of Edinburgh, from the Castle in the middle difference, to the roofs of Princes Street, to a great view all the way down to Leith docks and the Firth of Forth beyond. Read the rest of this entry »

The self-help project, part one

The first self-help book I read, why I look down on them, and why I’ve decided to read more.

When I was at university I bought a copy of Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People from a second-hand bookshop in Norwich. The book was written in 1936, and is, I think, pretty much the first self-help book. It’s still at number 143 on Amazon.co.uk’s bestseller list. And it’s the only self-help book I’ve read.
